Among the French sheep breeds, the Lacaune Sheep is known as a typical dairy sheep. The breed, which is under controlled breeding, is obtained by crossbreeding the native sheep in France with the Barbarine type sheep of North African origin.

Its body is covered with white fleece; there is no fleece on the feet, underbelly, neck and head.
Male and female sheep are hornless.
Newborn lambs develop quickly.
Lacaune sheep, which grazes docilely and calmly in the pasture, are also well adapted to mountainous areas.

It is one of the sheep breeds that is suitable for milking in the milking unit.
Its milk is fatty and very suitable for making special cheese.
It has quality meat.
Live weight is 90 – 110 kg for adult males and 70 – 80 kilograms for females.
The annual average fleece yield for adult sheep is 2 kilograms.
If well cared for during a lactation period, it can reach 280 liters of milk yield.
