Texel
Texel is an animal developed in the 19th century on the Dutch island of Texel, using local breeds such as Lincoln and Leicester. The most important feature of Texel sheep is their remarkable muscle development and much less fat than other breeds.
Texel has an excellent meat and bone ratio. The meat ratio in the carcass is high, and the bones are relatively thin.
With these features, Texel has become the dominant sire line in Europe. Currently, its market share in England is equal to the Suffolk breed.

Pyhsical Characteristics
The body is completely covered with white fleece.
Black nostrils, wide face, small ears are characteristic features.
The face and feet are fleeceless, and the nails are black.
It is one of the tailless sheep breeds.
It is a medium-sized sheep breed.
It has a body structure characteristic of meat sheep breeds. It has excellent muscle development.
Yield Characteristics
The twin birth rate is high.
The annual fleece yield is 4 kg on average.
The live weight of adult rams is 100 – 120 kg. The live weight of ewes is 65 – 80 kg on average.
The live weight gain is 450 gr / day.
The meat is lean. It is also delicious.
The meat yield exceeds 55%.
The Texel sheep has recently started to be sought after in our country among foreign sheep breeds.
